WSARC member Eric Linxweiler W7FCL led a hands on session for the 3rd grade science class at Genesee Hill Elementary School, giving the students a real taste of radio.  They talked about how radio waves work, watched videos of youth in amateur radio, learned how easy it was to work a radio and get a license, and then learned about how various modes of communication work.  Eric says he tried to teach them his favorite quote about how you have two ears, two eyes, and one mouth – meaning you should listen 4 times as much as you talk, but they didn’t quite follow along with that.  They had also learned some CW and they all knew four characters by ear, so the CW key was a hit.  He also said “The best part was getting the kids on the air.  They loved knowing they were talking all over Seattle including a contact in Port Townsend.”
